Handfuls of Miles and Nowhere to Put Them?

Since I like to get a good deal when I fly, I typically pick the cheapest flight even if it’s not my preferred airline, points/miles-wise. Same thing goes for hotels — when I’ve traveled for work, we’ve been directed to particular chains which means I’ve gathered up quite a few points there, too. Problem is, save a few exceptions, I’ve netted a thousand miles here, a few thousand there, several thousand elsewhere and so on — nowhere near the 35,000 and up needed to get a flight.

Be a Tourist in Your Own City!

I have a friend visiting me from the East Coast next month and, while she's not really into the whole Fisherman's Wharf/ Pier 39 SF experience, she's also never been to California ever. While scratching my brain to come up with appropriately touristy activities that would be fun for a visitor and resident alike (and not cost us a fortune), I started hunting online for free entertainment deals and coupons . .

Passenger's From Hell

Trip Advisor is holding a poll asking which is the worst type of passenger, and I thought I'd pose the same question to the group. I have a ton of annoying, hysterical, and crazy experiences with at least 4 of the categories here. The Oblivious Parent: The kids kick your seat from takeoff to touchdown, but the parents might as well be miles away.

Do You Book Holiday Tickets Early or Last Minute?

Ahh, the age-old question: to be or not to be to book or not to book. No matter how much homework you do on research comparing apples to apples, it's nearly impossible to predict the ebbs and flows of ticket prices . .

I'm Asking: Would You Gamble on Rain to Win a Free Stay?

I don't know many people who look forward to a rainy day on a beach vacay, but this plan may make you more inclined. Although normal rates for Malaysia's luxury Tanjong Jara Resort will run upwards of $350 per night, if you encounter more than an inch of rainfall in any 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Would You Take an Affordable Clothing-Optional Vacation?

Clothing optional situations are typically limited to behind closed doors, but not if you're venturing off on a nakation. You don't have to bare it all on nakations — that's where the optional part comes into play — though you can if you want to. Besides the fact that participating nudists say that nude recreation is fun, there might be a financial benefit to taking a trip that encourages you to don your birthday suit.

I'm Asking: Have You Ever Canceled a Vacation?

After the oft-annoying planning and booking process, the last thing on my mind is canceling a vacation. However, I once preliminarily booked hotel rooms for a pal's birthday with a 24-hour-notice cancellation policy directly from the resort's website. I knew I'd secured something at a good price while I diligently monitored my favorite travel sites to see if a room at a more desirable hotel would significantly drop in price (it did) or if I changed my mind and decided to go a different weekend (did that, too.).

Savvy Tip: Two Ways to Score Free WiFi at the Airport

Searching for (or stealing) someone else's spotty Internet signal is never fun. Trust me, I've tried it — and let's just say Savvy wasn't smiling when it cut out . .
